Doherty: Big Government Should Not Mandate Vaccinations that Conflict with Religious Beliefs (Unedited Version)
NJIAT obtained the unedited version of New Jersey Senator Mike Doherty's press release opposing bill S-2173 (the elimination of religious exemptions for vaccinations) on 12/10/19. (It is unfortunate that the communications specialist for the New Jersey Senate Republican Office censors statements. Doherty: Big Government Should Not Mandate Vaccinations that Conflict with Religious Beliefs
In response to the outcry against legislation, S-2173, that would eliminate religious exemptions for vaccinations, Senator Michael Doherty (R-23) made the following statement:
“My district office phone has been ringing off the hook with parents concerned that their children will be forced to receive needle injections that violate their religious beliefs. This is big, obtrusive government at its worst.
“Both the United States and New Jersey Constitutions guarantee the protection of religious freedoms, and this partisan legislation is a blatant violation of the constitutional rights of all New Jerseyans. Garden State parents should not have to defend the tenets of their religion to the governmental authorities in New Jersey. Religious vaccine exemptions are lawful, and I will fight to ensure they remain so.
“The best protection against infectious disease is a healthy immune system, supported by natural foods, vitamins, herbs and supplements that build up the immune system to fight off almost any disease known to mankind. A well-nourished child will easily recover from an infectious disease and will rarely suffer complications.
“Vaccinated individuals can pose greater risk to public health than the unvaccinated due to a process known as shedding. Scientific evidence demonstrates that individuals vaccinated with live virus vaccines such as MMR (measles, mumps and rubella), rotavirus, chicken pox, shingles and influenza can shed the virus for many weeks or months afterwards and infect the vaccinated and unvaccinated alike. See https://www.westonaprice.org/studies-show-that-vaccinated-individuals-spread-disease/
“During the Christmas season, we teach our children about Jesus Christ’s message of peace and goodwill toward men. It appears that this bill, S-2173, has been purposefully scheduled for a vote just before the Christmas and Hanukkah holidays in order to upset and agitate New Jersey’s religious communities and families.”
